For the half term week of 27th May to 4th June the Midland Railway – Butterley will be staging a very special event.
Butterley Brick Week will offer a great family day out featuring a major exhibition of LEGO® brick models, workshops and fun.
Appearing for the first time in the East Midlands, this display of 27 special models, “Bricks Britannia”, built by the famous Bright Bricks model makers features a stunning 8 metre long model of the iconic “Flying Scotsman” with coaches.
There will also be interactive workshops, with the chance for visitors to build their very own LEGO® brick steam locomotive, and a find Billy Brick competition.
Children may be so busy enjoying themselves, they may not realise they are learning about 5,000 years of British History. The Bricks Britannia show covers British historical people, events and iconic symbols: Stonehenge, William Shakespeare and the James Watt Steam Engine to name a few.
This is all on top of the usual attractions of the Midland Railway – Butterley including the Railway Museum, Country Park, West Shed Experience, Narrow Gauge and Model Railways, Demonstration Signal Box and Victorian Railwayman’s Church.
Alan Calladine said “This is a great chance for visitors to see this impressive exhibition of models from the Bricks Britannia collection with the huge model of Flying Scotsman being the clear highlight. There will be plenty to keep everyone entertained and the LEGO® brick steam locomotive is a great model to build.”
