This weekend sees the GVLR “Narrow Gauge Event”
GVLR passenger trains will be hauled by resident steam loco O & K 7529/1914 (placed in service in the UK for the first time in 2021) and will hauling the former Ashover Light Railway coach No4.
In the interval between each passenger train, a diesel or battery electric loco hauled freight train will work a return trip between Butterley Park Station and Brand’s Sidings.
The Running Shed will be open for viewing by guided tours, and, subject to the availability of sufficient staff, it may be possible to have a supervised go at driving a light engine in Brand’s Sidings South yard.
Please note that all access is from Butterley Station only, there is NO public parking at Swanwick Junction.

Midland Railway – Butterley’s heritage Diesel Multiple Unit will operating today. These trains have really large windows and so there is an excellent view all round. Plus you can see into the cab and see the driver in action, as well as the track ahead.
Trains depart from Butterley at: 11.00am, 11.50am, 12.40pm, 2.00pm, 2.50pm & 3.45pm
Get off the train at Swanwick Junction and explore the Museum Complex, where you will be able to visit the children’s play area, Victorian Railwayman’s Church, the Country Park and the Golden Valley Light Railway “Narrow Gauge Event”.
Trains return from Swanwick Junction at: 11.35am, 12.25pm, 1.15pm, 2.35pm, 3.25pm & 4.00pm.
