Visit the Midland Railway – Butterley for a very special day out to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of the formation of the Midland Railway.
- Enjoy a heritage train ride.
- Explore with a special Midland Railway Trail.
- Visit a special exhibition of Midland Railway artefacts not normally on display – Located in Victorian Railwayman’s Church
- Tug models and information on Heysham Harbour and the tug boat Wyvern, which was ran and owned by the Midland Railway Company on Butterley Platform
Trains depart from Butterley at: 11.00am, 12.25pm, 2.00pm & 3.20pm.
Get off the train at Swanwick Junction and explore the Museum Complex, where you will be able to visit the Matthew Kirtley Building (Railway Museum), Demonstration Signal Box, Victorian Railwayman’s Church, the West Shed and the Country Park. Other attractions may also be open. (Please note that this is not possible on the 3.20pm departure.)
Trains return from Swanwick Junction at: 11.45am, 1.15pm, 2.45pm & 4.00pm.
Today’s trains are planned to be steam hauled.

The narrow gauge Golden Valley Light Railway will be operating during this event using the historic Ashover Light Railway Carriage No. 4. Please note a separate fare is payable on this railway.
