This event has now passed.

“If you go down to the woods today……” well not the woods exactly, in fact your big surprise is actually at the Midland Railway – Butterley. You will be greeted by the larger than life Butterley Bear and there will be special Teddy Bears’ displays around the railway, featuring about 200 bears of all shapes and sizes. New for 2020, in Deeley’s Tearoom there will be an interactive display and colouring competition. There is also a themed children’s competition and as a special offer, any child brought in by their own Teddy Bear will be able to travel free of charge.

Experience the way travel used to be with a train ride through the wonderful Derbyshire countryside on one of the Midland Railway – Butterley’s heritage Diesel Multiple Units. These trains have really large windows and so there is an excellent view all round. Plus you can see into the cab and see the driver in action, as well as the track ahead.

Trains depart from Butterley at:  11.00am, 11.50am, 12.40pm, 2.00pm, 2.50pm & 3.45pm

Get off the train at Swanwick Junction and explore the Museum Complex, where you will be able to visit the Matthew Kirtley Building (Railway Museum), Demonstration Signal Box, Victorian Railwayman’s Church, the West Shed and the Country Park. Other attractions may also be open.

Enjoy a warming drink or a tempting treat at Johnson’s Buffet and for the children there is a special meal deal.

Trains return from Swanwick Junction at:  11.35am, 12.25pm, 1.15pm, 2.35pm, 3.25pm & 4.00pm.
