Victorian Train Weekend
May 4 - May 6
Step back in time and begin the celebrations of the 175th Anniversary of the formation of the Midland Railway. Experience Midland style and travel as it would have been over 100 years ago, as the restored vintage carriages are brought out of the museum to operate train services for visitors. The train will be steam hauled and there will also be a “classic” train service on Sunday and Monday.
Midland Railway Trust volunteers will be on the vintage trains in period costume to add to the atmosphere and answer your questions and for children there’s a special vintage themed I-Spy competition. For those people who want to explore there is a special Midland Railway Trail.
The Victorian Train will leave Butterley at: 10.30am, 11.40am, 1.25pm, 2.50pm and 4.20pm. Return trips will depart from Swanwick Junction at: 11.15am, 12.35pm, 2.20pm, 3.45pm and 5.10pm. The “classic” train services will slot in between these services on Sunday and Monday.
Visitors in Victorian costume travel at half price. All of the usual attractions will be open.
Please note: Passengers travelling on the 4.20pm departure from Butterley will not have time to explore the Swanwick Junction museum complex.
The narrow gauge Golden Valley Light Railway will be also be running trains today using the historic Ashover Light Railway Carriage No.4 for which a separate fare is payable.
