Halloween at the Midland Railway – Butterley is a very ‘spooktacular’ affair. Wizards & Spooks trains operate for eight of the nine days of the Derbyshire schools’ autumn half term holiday.  Sorry, no trains on Monday.

On arrival at Butterley you will find a specially decorated Booking Hall in the Station – enter if you dare!   This is your gateway to:

  • Magical Entertainment
  • Wizard Competition
  • Railway Museum
  • West Shed Experience
  • Victorian Railwayman’s Church
  • Demonstration Signal Box
  • Shops & Buffets

Trains depart from Butterley Station at: 11am, 11.50am, 12.40pm, 2pm & 2.45pm.

Get off the train at Swanwick Junction and explore the Museum Complex, where you will be able to visit the Matthew Kirtley Building (Railway Museum), Demonstration Signal Box, Victorian Railwayman’s Church, the West Shed and the Country Park. Other attractions may also be open.

Trains return from Swanwick Junction at:  11.35am, 12.25pm, 1.15pm, 2.35pm, 3.25pm & 4.00pm.

Today’s trains will be a heritage Diesel Multiple Unit, with large windows offering great views of the Derbyshire countryside and also a view of the driver in action.
