
Join us at Midland Railway – Butterley on Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th July 2025 for our ‘Ale on the Rails 200’ event!
This weekend will feature both steam and diesel locomotives from our home fleet alongside visiting locomotives celebrating 200 years of railway development.

We are very excited to announce that DB Cargo are supporting ‘Ale on the Rails 200’ with up to 10 DB Cargo locomotives visiting us from Toton TMD. The 10 visiting locomotives will take part in hauling our passenger trains alongside being on display in Swanwick Junction yard. This is your chance to ride behind DB Class 66 & 67 locomotives. A DB Cargo class 92 is hoped to be joining us for display over the weekend.

Also visiting will be the ETCS training simulator fitted into a lorry trailer. Alongside this, the railway will feature a beer festival supported by TomSaid micropub once again, Steam/Diesel on the Golden Valley Light Railway, Bus rides around our Museum Complex, Diesel Roller can crush, Road Transport displays, West Shed displays, Butterley Park miniature railway, Road steam display, live band, food vendors & Rail vehicles from our museum outside on display.

This weekend will see our superb Vintage coaching stock in operation alongside our BR Mark1 coaches. We also hope to publicly launch our BR Mark3 carriages into revenue service which have been undergoing maintenance since arrival at the railway and accompanied by our Mark1 Brake/Goods vehicle in its brand new BR Blue ‘Newspapers’ livery!
