The Midland Railway – Butterley works with a number of railway and training companies, who use the facilities on offer to train their employees/clients and to test/modify railway equipment.
As an operating heritage railway our primary concern is to provide a range of visitor services. However, we have a significant amount of siding space and are therefore in a position to offer a wide range of opportunities for commercial companies who wish to work in partnership with us. We have a rail connection to Network Rail lines on the Nottingham Sheffield main line, as well as unloading facilities for railway vehicles delivered by road. Our main line can be used on any day when we are not operating train services, subject to compliance with our Safety Management System. We have a training room available for hire and catering services can also be made available.

- Training of track maintenance gangs away from the dangers of operational trains.
- Training of drivers for specific pieces of railway equipment.
