The Midland Railex Show held at the Midland Railway – Butterley each year is now in its fifth year. This year we are holding the extensive model railway exhibition on 12th and 13th August 2017.
It will feature over 20 model railway layouts and a broad cross section of model retailers and suppliers will be present, enabling visitors to purchase those hard-to-find specialist tools or the latest newly released locomotive to enhance their layout. A large range of specialist demonstrations will also take place illustrating the many and varied aspects of the hobby, from scenic tips such as the modelling of trees and scenery, through to the building of rolling stock. There will be something of interest in model form for all.
Standard gauge heritage trains will be in operation and in addition Narrow Gauge* Trains, plus the Miniature Railway* will also be running over the weekend (* additional fares apply for these trains).
The Butterley Garden Railway (16mm scale, 32 and 45 mm gauge) will be in full operation on both days of the Railex, with live steam and battery electric locos.
The Museum in the Matthew Kirtley Building and the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust’s West Shed Experience will also be open, offering extensive collections of locomotives and rolling stock on display to visitors.
