Victorian Train Weekend
August 24 - August 26
Step back in time and experience travel as it would have been over 100 years ago, as the restored vintage carriages are brought out of the museum to operate train services for visitors. A newly restored carriage which took to the tracks for the first time in 2017 after 18 years of hard work will be in service again. So if you missed it last year, why not take a trip in this amazing carriage in 2018. The train will be steam hauled and there will also be a “classic” train service on Sunday and Monday.
Midland Railway Trust volunteers will be on the vintage trains in period costume to add to the atmosphere and answer your questions and for children there’s a special vintage themed I-Spy competition.
The Victorian train will leave Butterley Station at: TBC.
Return trips will depart from Swanwick Junction at: TBC
Visitors in Victorian costume travel at half price. All of the usual attractions and the beach at Swanwick Junction will be open.
The narrow gauge Golden Valley Light Railway will be operating during this event using the historic Ashover Light Railway Carriage No. 4. Please note a separate fare is payable on this railway.
The Historic Model Railway Society, located in the Matthew Kirtley Building, will also be open with various displays on Saturday and Sunday only.
