Join us at the Midland Railway – Butterley for our Summer Diesel Gala, when our home fleet of heritage diesel locomotives will be supplemented by visiting diesel locomotives from the national network. An intensive and exciting timetable will be in operation.

Intercity MK2 rake in operation
Enjoy some pure 1990s nostalgia and travel in a rake of Intercity MK2 carriages.
Rare track in use
Trains will operate over both our south curve to Codnor Park Junction (rather than the usual north curve) and also on our Swanwick Colliery Branch giving passengers the opportunity to travel over some unusual and rarely used track.
Driver for a Fiver
Your chance to have a go at driving a diesel shunter! Driver for a Fiver will be taking place at Butterley Station from 10:00 until 16:30 using Class 11 – 12077.
The Sea Fish Special
Saturday evening will see a Fish and Chip Special depart Butterley Station at 18:30. Fish and Chips can be pre-ordered on the day at Butterley Station for £7.99.
Golden Valley Light Railway
The Golden Valley Light Railway will be operating trains using various diesel locomotives.
Departure times from Butterley Park will be at:
11:50, 12:30, 13:15, 14:00, 14:45, 15:30 and 16:15
