New for 2025, the Midland Railway – Butterley is hosting the Ministry of Steampunks event at the Railway on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th May.
Visitors arriving at Butterley Station will be subject to various checks (passport control, declarations of health against fae disease etc.) and will then be transported by a steam train to the main event site at Swanwick Junction.

Once visitors arrive at Swanwick Junction there will be a curated Steampunk market and you can expect a a few extra Steampunk exhibits and an enormous number of permanent features.
Plus exhibitions, model railways, Demonstration Signal box and Victorian Railwayman’s Church, The Narrow Gauge (extra charges apply) Road Transport Museum, The West Shed and Stationary Power and outdoor play area. Deeley’s Victorian Tearoom will be open serving light snacks and a bar.
Not forgetting the 40 acre Country Park and spectacular views.

Previous Steampunk Fairytale events in other locations have welcomed many visitors in stunning outfits – from Fairies to Disney Princesses, from Snow White and Cinderella to Red Riding Hood and some big bad wolves, from Mad Hatters to furies and woodland creatures.
All will be welcome at Butterley; it will be the perfect location with ‘something for everyone’, a real family destination.
