DMU Driver Experience Days

The Midland Railway – Butterley is offering the chance to drive one of its Diesel Multiple Units for the day!

The day starts at 10:30am with refreshments before being given a safety briefing.
An experienced driver will then provide an introduction to the train in use and will show the
participants round the unit, describing the main features and showing how a train is prepared
for service.

The train will then be taken out on the line, with each of the participants being given the
chance to both drive and guard the unit as we undertake several whole line trips.

At around 1pm the train will pause at Swanwick Junction where a buffet lunch will be
provided for both the participant and one other person (included in the price).

The afternoon will enable more mileage to be accumulated, with a minimum of six return
trips being covered within the whole day, three each driving and three each as guard.
The day will finish at approx. 4pm when the participants will be shown how to work the
signal box in order to put the train away for the day.
Photo stops will be available – so bring your camera!

The day is for two participants at £300 each, however it is permissible for two people to share one place, although this would halve the amount of driving that each person undertakes.

Exclusive days are available for one person at £600.

One person may accompany each participant, but must board and alight the train at a public platform.
