An exciting opportunity has opened up to become our new Events and Marketing Manager.

This role will include the delivery of planned events, development of new events, and development and application of a strategic approach to marketing. The successful applicant will be able to work flexibly, as a key part of a team of both paid staff and volunteers, to generate revenue for the Midland Railway – Butterley.

The management of events and marketing, to include the delivery of planned events, development of new events, and development and application of a strategic approach to marketing. The successful applicant will be able to work flexibly, as a key part of a team of both paid staff and volunteers, to generate revenue for the Midland Railway – Butterley.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

· Provide event and marketing leadership, motivation and direction.

· Support and where necessary lead the delivery of events, including:-

o Defining responsibilities between the job role and volunteers.

o Ensuring agreed items are procured/delivered in good time.

o Provision of materials etc. including (for example) ticketing, invites, literature etc.

· Manage the online booking system which includes setting up event, managing and deal with customer enquiries relating to booking.

· Social media platforms and insure the content is regular, up to date and engaging.

· Constantly review the current offering with a view to development and evolution of products or services.

· Research and analysis of market trends, demographics, pricing schedules, competitor products to inform marketing proposals.

· Establish cost-effective marketing plans as part of overall business planning process and deliver those plans within agreed budget.

· Oversee the creative development of promotional materials, website content, advertisements, and other marketing-related projects.

· To keep event expenditure to within agreed budget and ensure all external suppliers have agreements/contracts.

· Ensure that events are delivered to a high standard and meet visitor expectations.

· Communicate effectively with all persons and organisations involved in the delivery of events.

· To work within Company policies and procedures and to raise any issues that fall outside, or are contrary to, any of those policies or procedures with the Midland Railway Trust Board.

· Report marketing and event outcomes to the Midland Railway Trust Board.

· Organise suitable promotions and advance ticketing both in-house and with third party agencies.

· Manage supplier relationships.

· Undertake other tasks as required by the role.

Personal Specification/Key Skills required for this role

· Be a leader of the volunteers and staff responsible for developing and delivering events.

· Effective management of volunteers and staff responsible for delivering events.

· Chair and/or participate in meetings relevant to the role, such as developing annual event calendars and marketing strategies.

· Strong interpersonal skills; able to liaise and work with a wide-ranging group of people and develop effective working relationships.

· Confident and accurate implementation of planed annual timetables/events calendar.

· Different events place different demands on resource levels. Variously, the successful applicant shall be able to act as Event Manager, Main Point of Contact or support Event Lead personnel in remotely delivering events as applicable.

· Ability to discuss and agree specific event budgets and manage costs to those budgets;

· 3+ years experience of event organisation

· Experience of managing health and safety in a live events setting

· Proven track record of success in an event setting

· Skilled in live event project management

· Understanding of food and beverage logistics

· Experience and understanding of working to a budget.

· Highly organised; can prioritise and work well under pressure, manage conflicting demands whilst maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.

· Managing of personnel experience

· Working with volunteers experience.

· Experience of planning and executing event operations.

· Good IT skills on Microsoft Office packages.

· A pragmatic, level-headed and methodical nature.

· Have a full UK driving license

Additional desirable knowledge and experience relevant to this role:-

· Experience of working in a railway environment

· Previous experience of working in an organisation that is more Network than Hierarchy

· Grant Bid writing

There will also be a requirement to:

· Work flexibly to support the overall operation in dealing with day-to-day matters, sharing general duties including manning the ticket window, answering telephones, checking e-mails, processing on-line and telephone bookings, general administration and dealing with requests from the public and volunteers.

· Share expertise with others and support other members of the event team.

Flexibility Statement

The Midland Railway-Butterley is a constantly changing operation that requires a high level of flexibility from all staff. Staff may be requested to undertake tasks outside of the duties described above. In addition, as the organisation changes over time role profiles may need to be adjusted accordingly. Flexible (Agile) working for staff is also acceptable if pre-agreed with the Board of Directors.
