Join us at the Midland Railway this August Bank Holiday, 29th, 30th & 31st August 2026, for our Victorian Train Weekend and step back in time to the golden age of rail travel. Beautifully restored vintage carriages will be brought out of the museum and steam-hauled along the line, offering visitors a rare chance to experience rail travel as it would have been over 100 years ago.

Midland Railway Trust volunteers will be on board the trains in authentic period costume, helping to bring the atmosphere to life and answering your questions along the way. Younger visitors can also enjoy a special vintage-themed I-Spy competition.

Visitors arriving in Victorian costume can travel at half price on the day (valid on on-the-day tickets only).
In addition, the Golden Valley Light Railway at Swanwick Junction will be operating steam-hauled services, featuring O&K locomotive No. 7529.

Hop off the train at Swanwick Junction and explore our Museum Complex, packed with things to see and do for all ages.
Discover the Victorian Railwayman’s Church, step back in time in the West Shed Experience, and explore the Road Transport Building, Stationary Power House & Golden Valley Light Railway. Younger visitors can let off steam in the kids’ play area, while families can enjoy a stroll around the Country Park.
Other attractions may also be open on the day, all subject to volunteer availability.
Deeley’s Tearooms at Swanwick Junction will also be open, serving a selection of hot and cold drinks, snacks, ice creams, and sandwiches — perfect for a relaxing break during your visit.
Please note: Free Parking and entrance are at Butterley station. Swanwick Junction Station is not accessible with vehicles.
